The third season of Amazon’s hit series “The Boys” saw “Supernatural” alum Jensen Ackles join as a grizzled, PTSD-riddled Soldier Boy.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “THE BOYS” S3 SEASON FINAL
The finale saw the character seemingly defeated and put back into cryogenic stasis. That leaves the door open for the actor and character to return someday.
Speaking with EW, showrunner Eric Kripke says there could be more Soldier Boy in the future:
“The old TV adage is like, never kill anyone unless you really, really have to. Never close a door, open a window. We’ll all have to wait and see, but I can’t imagine the series ending without Soldier Boy making another appearance.”
Ackles, who worked with Kripke for five years on “Supernatural,” says he’s generally aware of what Kripke does with his characters but won’t know if he’ll return until they want him:
“I know Kripke is very smart about how he sends his characters off because he can always bring them back. So I know there are plans in talks, but I don’t know exactly what those are. But I told Krip, ‘Look, man, put me in anytime. You tell me when to come running, I’ll come running.’”
It has also been confirmed via Deadline that some elements of the college-set spinoff will be picked up and taken into the show’s fourth season just as that spin-off will have elements of “The Boys” third season happening in the background.
“The Boys” is set to start filming its fourth season in August. The complete third season is now available on Amazon Prime.
