The Latest On Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte and Erling Haaland Ahead Of Manchester City vs Club America

Manchester City begin their pre-season preparations with a friendly on Wednesday.

The Premier League Champions are back in the United States, readying themselves for the upcoming 2022/23 campaign.

Guardiola’s side headed to Houston on Saturday, and will play two friendlies during their time in the USA.

The Sky Blues’ first match is against Club America on Wednesday, taking place at the NRG Stadium in Texas.

City then travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin, where they will face Bayern Munich at Lambeau Fields on Saturday.

All four of Manchester City’s summer recruits traveled with the Blues to the US, notably including Erling Haaland – despite the Norwegian striker not being pictured in training at the City Football Academy during the past week.

Kalvin Phillips, Julian Alvarez and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega also travelled, with the four players potentially in-line for their first minutes in a City shirt.

City dramatically beat Aston Villa on the final day of the season to secure their fourth Premier League title in five years, with the Blues now gearing up to try and claim a hat-trick of league titles.

Four City players haven’t however traveled to the USA for the tour, and ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Club America, here is all the latest team news regarding both City and the Mexican side.

Manchester City Team News:

Pep Guardiola took a 26-man squad to the US, however Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, John Stones and Aymeric Laporte have all remained in Manchester.

The Athletic reported on Saturday that Gundogan missed out on the tour due to his COVID-19 vaccination status, with the German catching the virus in June having prevented the 31 year-old from receiving his second jab.

No official reason has been provided for Foden and Stones’ absence, however the English pair, along with Gundogan, will travel to Croatia to be apart of Manchester City’s U23s pre-season tour.

Aymeric Laporte meanwhile will remain in Manchester, with the Spain defender continuing his recovery from injury.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is widely reported to be closing in on a transfer to Arsenal, but the Ukrainian is with the City squad.

City’s 26-man traveling squad: Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Kalvin Phillips, Nathan Ake, Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Stefan Ortega, Julian Alvarez, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Joao Cancelo, Ederson , Scott Carson, Liam Delap, Kayky, Luke Mbete, Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Josh Wilson-Esbrand, Oscar Bobb, Rico Lewis, Finley Burns and Ben Knight.

Club America Team News:

Club America have won just one of their first three matches in Liga MX, and are currently playing a series of friendlies against European heavyweights in the USA.

The Mexican side lost 2-1 to Chelsea on Saturday, and have friendlies lined up against City and Real Madrid.

Mexican internationals Guillermo Ochoa and Miguel Layun both featured against Chelsea at the weekend.
