Scott Brown comes out on top vs former Celtic teammates in Saturday clash

Scott Brown’s Fleetwood Town enjoyed their Saturday pre-season action this afternoon, defeating Scottish Premiership side Dundee United.

The former Celtic captain took charge of Fleetwood earlier this summer and has been building a squad he feels can compete in English League One.

Today, former teammates Charlie Mulgrew and Tony Watt were in the United eleven on their visit to England, but Brown’s outfit came out on top with a 2-1 victory.

Brown reacted positively to the performance, telling his club’s official website: “To be fair there were some good performances on display today. We got a little bit tired and a little bit sloppy as the game went on, but I wanted the lads to get as many minutes as they possibly could.

“Quite a lot of the players got 90 minutes today, which is ideal for us, and for the players as well. There’s another game on Tuesday so the others will get 90 minutes then. Overall, it was a good game with both teams wanting to play football.

“Dundee United had fantastic support today, and Jack has got them playing some good stuff. At the end of the day, we’re happy enough with the win, but I know the lads can push more and have better quality. Now we need to be looking forward to the first game of the season.”

Fleetwood’s first competitive fixture under Brown takes place next week away to Port Vale. I’m very intrigued to see how he gets on in the division this season.

Beating Dundee United so close to the 2022/23 kick-off is a good sign, with the Tannadice side not looking in bad shape themselves under new boss Jack Ross.

The very best of luck to the former Celtic captain as he embarks on a new journey!
