A young Reds outfit played their part in an entertaining pre-season encounter at Wetherby Road this evening.
In what was a starting lineup that didn’t include anyone from the weekend’s stalemate with Nottingham Forest, Michael Duff will have been pleased to see this young Reds outfit compete well against League Two opposition.
They fell behind in Harrogate however, when Max Wright lifted the ball over the advancing Jack Walton and prodded home the finish.
Barnsley would rally and after Fabio Jalo had threatened with a scraping effort that hit the side-netting, his strike partner Aiden Marsh leveled proceedings just before the break when he lashed in on the turn from close-range after Town failed to deal with a Jordan williams cross.
HALF-TIME: Harrogate 1-1 Barnsley
There was a dominance about the Reds after the break and that saw them take the lead when a Joe Ackroyd corner kick was expertly headed home by Jasper Moon.
Further chances came for both sides and Town should have leveled but found Walton in decent form to thwart them, whilst also seeing one effort rattle the post.
They eventually found an equalizer when Alex Pattison took advantage of a loose ball just outside the box to finish low underneath the ‘keeper.
A late opportunity fell to substitute Jack Butterfill but his vicious volley was stopped on the line, and so a draw it was.
FULL-TIME: Harrogate 2-2 Barnsley
Walton, Helliwell, Moon, Williams (D.Benson), Sraha, Cadden (Nejman), Ackroyd (Kalinauskas), Hondermarck, Thomas, Marsh, Jalo (Butterfill).
