Portsmouth Could Make Signing Within 24 Hours

Portsmouth are close to completing another signing this summer as they continue to back Danny Cowley in the transfer market, according to BBC South TV.

Pompey finished the 2021/22 season in tenth place in League One, ten points behind Wycombe Wanderers, who booked the last playoff spot.

Having lost last season’s top scorer Marcus Harness to Ipswich Town this summer, Portsmouth brought in Colby Bishop from Accrington Stanley, a forward current boss Danny Cowley had his eye on for some time.

Portsmouth have already moved to strengthen many positions this summer, signing two goalkeepers, two right-backs, eleven central midfielders and two centre-forwards, including Bishop.

One more signing is expected to be made official within the next 24 hours, though the identity of the latest arrival at Fratton Park is currently unknown.

A position that Portsmouth will need to reinforce is the right wing, following Harness’ departure for Kieran McKenna’s side.

Portsmouth have also lost left winger Aiden O’Brien, defensive midfielder Shaun Williams and centre-back Paul Downing, the first two on free transfers and the last upon the expiration of his contract this summer.

Cowley will be hoping that his side can put in a strong tilt at promotion this season and they start the campaign this weekend against Sheffield Wednesday.
