Paul Scholes issues damning verdict on Erik ten Hag’s five new rules that Man Utd stars must follow

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has delivered a damning verdict of the five new rules that Erik ten Hag has imposed on his new players.

The Dutchman took over at Old Trafford this summer after leaving Ajax to replace interim chief Ralf Rangnick, with the Red Devils finishing a hugely disappointing sixth place in the Premier League and also failing to win a trophy again.

Ten Hag has arrived amidst a storm, with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting out. Record signing Paul Pogba has also walked away on a free.

Pogba has joined Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani in leaving. Dean Henderson, meanwhile, has joined Nottingham Forest on loan and retired veteran stopper Lee Grant.

Ronaldo, who has been strongly linked with Chelsea, is keen to leave after the failure to secure Champions League football.

United have, so far, made just one signing in Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

But scholes has pinpointed several new rules applied by Ten Hag as areas for concern.

The new Old Trafford chief has, according to the DailyMirrorput a ban on alcohol during a match-week and also a ban on personal chefs.

He will also drop any player who is late to training or team meetings without exception.

Have a Hag will be keeping a close eye over his squad’s weight. He is also to introduce weekly BMI checks to make sure his players are in shape.

The fifth rule is perhaps the strongest, in that all player grievances must be run past him. Indeed, the United squad are not allowed to talk to agents or other sources when they are unhappy.

Scholes unimpressed with Ten Hag rules

And Scholes has offered his opinion on those rules in a short, sharp message on Instagram.

The Red Devils legend, who won the Premier League an incredible 11 times, said – with an added shrugging emoji: “Not sure I would’ve coped without my personal chef and no agent to moan to.”

Meanwhile, the club Ronaldo should join has been named by an international teammate who also hinted at two things that have put the striker off remaining at Old Trafford.

The Athletic put Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Napoli in the frame as potential landing spots. Barcelona, and PSG have since drawn links, although no club have yet lodged an official offer.

Now, speak on talkSPORTRonaldo’s Portuguese teammate, Jose Fonte, has declared re-joining Real Madrid to be the “best” outcome for the player.
