Transfer News: Manchester United in talks to sign Tom Huddlestone as a player-coach
According to @mcgrathmike (via @TelegraphDucker) (via utdreport) [h/t Manchester Evening News]Manchester United are in surprise talks to sign former English international Tom Huddleston for the U-21 side this season.
The former English midfielder who is 35 years old, is in talks with the Red Devils to sign for the U-21 team and play a role with them for the upcoming season. The defensive midfielder is now a free agent as things stand.
The veteran midfielder played for Hull City last season but left the club upon the expiration of his contract. He is likely to take up a player-manager role for the U-21 team and be the guiding presence for the team.
The 35-year-old played the majority of his career for Tottenham Hotspur. The midfielder made 207 appearances for the Lilywhites scoring 16 goals and providing 31 assists across all competitions during his time at Old Hart lane.
Predominantly a defensive midfielder, who can also play at centre-back and centre-midfield, Huddleston has had a pretty decent career so far. He has been a more than useful utility player for the clubs he has played for.
Having played 580 matches in his career, it is safe to say that Huddleston is fairly experienced. He has scored 27 goals and provided 50 assists across all competitions which is pretty impressive for a defensive midfielder.
With his experience and the fact that he has played top-flight football for so many years, he will be a good influence on the youngsters in the team and will be able to guide them as they look to develop in their game.
