Real Madrid will have to overcome a major obstacle if they launch a stunning £78million raid to sign Jude Bellingham, while Liverpool have already trumped that offer.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder’s stock is on the rise as he continues to go from strength to strength in Germany, while Bellingham has also cemented himself a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup later this year.
Manchester United are known to have shown significant interest in the player. However, it’s Real and Liverpool who lead the way, given that they can provide Champions League football.
Chain BE reports that Real actually contacted Dortmund in January to agree on a deal this summer. That early contact was initiated due to Bellingham’s price tag continuing to be on the rise.
The report adds that the Bernabeu giants will swoop for Bellinghamif they decide against signing a striker.
A five or six-year contract offer is being proposed but there could be a spanner in the works. Real already have a full quota of non-EU players in their squad.
to that end, Chain BE adds that Real are hoping Vinicius Junior will have obtained a Spanish passport by 2023 so that Bellingham could join next summer, if a deal is agreed over the next few months.
Klopp wants England star on board
However, Liverpool could strike in the meantime, with Jurgen Klopp a big fan of the England man.
The Anfield outfit are already said to have offered £86million to Dortmund, easily besting Real’s offer.
The chances of Real also spending big on another midfielder also appear slim after they signed Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco for £86m.
Klopp wants Jude Bellingham but he’ll have to wait
Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund but they will have to wait until next summer
And while Dortmund face a tough task to keep one of their top stars, the player himself appears happy in Germany.
He previously stated: “The only future I think about is the next game for Dortmund,’ he told Ruhr Nachrichten.
“I look forward to next season. I look forward to it finally starting. But yes, I will be here next season and I will be ready.”
Bellingham could boss Liverpool’s midfield for years
Signing Jude Bellingham appears to be a complete no-brainer for Liverpool. But that’s only if they are ready to commit that sort of money for the midfielder’s signature.
He could be the mainstay of the club’s engine room for the next decade, given his tender age.
A box-to-box midfielder who brings goals and assists, he is the sort of player who could thrive under Jurgen Klopp.
And bringing in Bellingham to compliment the already impressive signing of Darwin Nunez could give Liverpool the edge they need over Manchester City in the title race.
