Liverpool have jetted off to Thailand for their pre-season camp but Jurgen Klopp has left Ben Davies at home, amid reports he’s in talks with other clubs.

Davies, who signed from Preston as an emergency signing two seasons back, spent the whole of last season out on loan with Sheffield United. However, the Blades have opted against signing Davies again it seems, with Jack Robinson and Ciaran Clark likely to be their left-sided options.

And according to Sky Sports, Liverpool have left Davies back in England as he looks to progress talks with both Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers. Interestingly, Davies actually scored his only goal of last season against Blackburn.

With so much competition at Anfield for those central defensive positions, Davies was always likely to move on this summer. Jurgen Klopp has enough in terms of options in that position, and will let the former Preston man walk away.

Labeled as ‘outstanding’ when he did sign for the Blades, Davies eventually lost his place in the back three to Jack Robinson as United made the playoffs.

TBR’s View: Davies Needs Liverpool Exit

It was a move he couldn’t turn down given he was at Preston at the time but now is the time for Ben Davies to look at getting back on track.

He is more than good enough for Championship football and the likes of Stoke and Blackburn could give him the platform he needs to really get his career going.

Davies’ absence from pre-season is no surprise really. It’s just a case now of Liverpool getting the best deal they can.
