Dennis not an Everton target as fans still wait for signings
Everton have had a hot start to the summer transfer window with a solid signing of James Tarkowski and the departure of Richarlison. The latest news indicates that Morgan Gibbs-White could be the next midfielder on manager Frank Lampard’s radar but this would ultimately be a bad idea.
Morgan Gibbs-White is an English midfielder who plays for the Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is just 22-years old and he’s played solid minutes for the England national team at the under 17 and under 21 level. Gibbs-White has struggled to put together a good string of matches for the Wolves so the team loaned him to Sheffield United last season, playing in the Championship.
Gibbs-White thrived at Sheffield United and appears ready to make a return to the Premier League. I have played in 37 matches and contributed to 22 of the team’s goals during that span. Gibbs-White’s 12 goals made him the second leading scorer on the team and his 10 assists were enough to lead all Sheffield United players.
According to Birmingham Mail, The Wolves have indicated that they are setting a £25-£30 million asking price for the 22-year old which is a risky investment for a rebuilding club, given the current financial circumstances. The Toffees should pursue young players like Gibbs-White but not during a time when there are other areas that need major surgery.
Morgan Gibbs-White may not be the best option for Everton
Everton already have an attacking midfielder in their ranks in Dele Alli. Even though he did not regularly feature in Lampard’s side last season, he has returned to training and looks more determined than ever to succeed and bring his career back on track.
The former Tottenham player has shown massive strides in terms of physical fitness and has made his intentions clear for the upcoming season. If he is able to provide his mettle from him in pre-season, Lampard could indeed make him a regular starter. In that case, Gibbs-White’s chase will look unnecessary.
The Wolves midfielder only netted a single goal and an assist in his first three seasons at Molineux and the Wolves clearly did not view him as an asset at present. He still has time to develop into a quality starter in the English Top Flight but that could take a few seasons and Everton need to crawl back into a top ten finish as soon as possible.
Lampard is pursuing multiple midfielders this summer and Morgan Gibbs-White is overpriced and may not be an immediate starter for the Toffees so the Merseysiders should look for upgrades in other departments. The team has some money to spare after selling Richarlison and needs to act quickly before other teams jump on the best young talent.
