Real Madrid and Spain wideman Marco Asensio is prepared to take wage cut to move this summer amid interest from Arsenal.
A report by Italian outlet TMW has offered an update on Asensio, who is also wanted by Serie A champions AC Milan.
They report that Real Madrid want to sell Asensio to Premier League suitors, including Arsenal – as well as Liverpool or Newcastle.
That is because there is more money in the Premier League budgets, with those clubs more capable of paying the £21.4 million asking price.
Asensio willing to take wage cut amid Arsenal interest
The report says Real are not going to wait much longer for a response from Asensio, with his contract expiring in 2023.
They say that Asensio is currently more likely to leave than stay, because Carlo Ancelotti cannot promise him a key role in his squad next season.
Asensio is aware that 2022-23 will have to be the year of his relaunch, with the World Cup with Spain on the horizon.
The report also says his current wage demands are around £6 million, but he is willing to lower his demands if he finds a suitable project.
Asensio asked his team to find a club that is really keen on him, and he will take a wage cut if he feels valued at a potential new side.
Madrid chief Florentino Perez has been clear that unless Asensio signs a new contract in place of the current one which has just one year remaining, he must be sold immediately.
And that could hand Mikel Arteta the chance to sign a ‘world class’ player, who he is reportedly really keen to sign this summer.
