Assassin’s Creed Origins is free to download and play this weekend on PS4, and PS5 via backwards compatibility. The open world title first released back in 2017, pulling the franchise in a new direction with a huge map and RPG elements, like character levels, skill trees, and loot. Origins is still widely considered to be one of the best games in the series, boasting an emotionally-charged story and a truly memorable Egyptian setting.
What’s more, Origins recently received a PS5 update, allowing the game to run at 60 frames-per-second (it’s 30 on PS4 and PS4 Pro). We actually went back to Origins to try it out, and it’s still a fantastic title. Compared to sequels Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Origins feels much more focused on its design. We’d highly recommend trying it out over this free weekend if you’re unfamiliar.
It’s a pretty big download though, weighing in at around 50GB or so. The free play period starts on the 16th June, and ends on the 20th June.
