Arsenal would have to pay near club-record fee for Lucas Paqueta

Arsenal are being linked with a move for Lucas Paqueta this summer and Fabrizio Romano has given his thoughts on the potential deal.

Paqueta is thought to be keen to follow his best friend Bruno Guimaraes to England and Lyon’s president admitted this weekend that there were some proposals on the table for the Brazilian star. Arsenal are thought to be one of the teams really keen, while Tottenham and Newcastle have also expressed their interest.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, should Arsenal or any of the interested clubs want to sign Paqueta, then it could take a huge fee.

“It will be a situation to be monitored until the end of the transfer market because Paqueta would love to play in the Premier League,” Romano told CaughtOffside.

“Lyon often end up selling their star players, but Paqueta won’t come cheap – his club would like at least €60-65m plus add-ons for the Brazilian.”

Of course, Arsenal should part ways with that money and then include add-ons, it could surpass the £72m they paid for Nicolas Pepe. The Gunners have already spent big this summer, with the potential addition of Paqueta taking them way past the £100m mark for the second successive summer.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Should Pay For Package

If the Gunners are going to make a big-name and big-money signing, then Paqueta should be top of the list.

He’d bring a class and elegance to the midfield area as well as adding that crucial missing element of goals.

His friend Guimaraes has done exceptionally well with Newcastle, so Arsenal fans can rightfully think they’re going to get a similar sort of success level from Paqueta. Certainly. even if the price is £60m+, it could well be worth the money for Arsenal and their top four hopes.
