Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has resigned himself to missing out on Leeds United star Raphinha, according to The Sun.
The Gunners have been linked with the Elland Road star over the past few weeks.
Early last week, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Arsenal were still very much in the race for Raphinha.
However, the Gunners soon fell behind as Chelsea reportedly made a bid that Leeds found satisfactory.
And then, Barcelona emerged ahead – the Whites are now apparently not far away from agreeing to a deal with them.
It looks as though the Blaugrana could soon win the race for Raphinha.
There could still be a twist of course, but The Sun suggested that it wouldn’t involve Arsenal.
‘Arteta is resigned to missing out on Leeds winger Raphinha despite tabling a £55million bid,’ they wrote.
This will probably not come as much of a surprise to Arsenal fans, many of whom will surely have crossed Raphinha off their lists.
Although Raphinha is an “unbelievable” player, Edu and Arteta may well have thought £65million for a wideman who may not necessarily be first choice is a bit steep.
There’s still plenty of time in the transfer window for Arsenal to find other reinforcements on the wings.
Besides, the Gunners have excelled so far in the transfer window, landing Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos.
