According to CalcioMercato.it, Arsenal are ready to sell Lucas Torreira, and Italian giants Juventus could make a move for him in the coming weeks.

The Gunners signed the Uruguayan midfielder from Sampdoria for £26.5 million in 2018 (Guardian). He was a huge hit in his debut season at the Emirates, but things completely changed for him in his second campaign.

Unai Emery, for whatever reason, decided to play Torreira in a more advanced role in Arsenal’s midfield. That completely cost the Uruguayan his confidence in him, and he never quite recovered from that.

After two seasons out on loan – first at Atletico Madrid and then at Fiorentina – Torreira is back at Arsenal, but he has no future there. He’s set to be sold this summer, and the Gunners’ demands aren’t too high at all.

Arsenal now ready to sell Lucas Torreira for just £8.5m

Torreira has entered the final year of his Arsenal contract. This is the last chance for the Gunners to get a decent fee for him, and Edu has reportedly set his asking price.

The report claims that Arsenal are prepared to let Torreira go this summer for just £8.5m. That’s a third of what they paid for him four years ago, but considering how his career has panned out, that’s probably the best they’re going to get for him.

The Italian outlet further reveals that Juventus, who are about to strengthen their squad with the addition of French World Cup winner Paul Pogba, are keen to sign another midfielder too before the window shuts.

Torreira, who had a really impressive campaign in Italy with Fiorentina last season, is one of the names on Massimiliano Allegri’s shortlist, and the Uruguayan may well head to Turin next.

It really is a shame how things have panned out for Torreira at Arsenal.

The Uruguayan, branded as a ‘fantastic’ player by Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn, showed so much promise in his debut season at the Emirates. Many believed he was the missing piece in Arsenal’s puzzle, but things have only gone south since.

Torreira has already made it clear that he will not be staying at Arsenal this summer. A move away is the best thing for all parties, and the prospect of playing alongside Pogba is definitely an exciting one for him.

However, game time will likely be limited if Torreira joins Juventus, and whether he’d be willing to accept that role ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year remains to be seen.
