20 Netflix Movies For The Rest Of 2022 You Need To Know About

2022 may be absolutely flying by, but there’s still five more months of the year to go, and we’re soon enough entering arguably the most exciting period of the year, when studios begin releasing their biggest awards plays and post-blockbuster genre films.

Netflix has had an undeniably uneven year so far, most recently typified by the wildly hit-and-miss tentpole The Gray Man, but it’s also clear that the streamer has been holding back a mass of content for the coming months when we’re less likely to be outside.

Much as Netflix has been rightly criticized for some of their more dubious business decisions as of late, they remain a firm home for diverse cinema, whether star-studded genre fare or the sort of singular, artistic dramas that struggle to get funded by a conventional studio.

And so, over the next five-or-so months, these are the 20 movies you should absolutely, positively keep an eye on.

Whether they’re likely to win Oscars or simply serve up a solid two hours of broad entertainment, they’ve all got potential to capture the zeitgeist in ways that so few Netflix Originals actually do…

Day Shift stars Jamie Foxx as Bud, a seemingly regular guy working as a pool cleaner in the San Fernando Valley, whose business is actually a front for his real job – hunting vampires.

Hollywood martial artist and stuntman JJ Perry makes his directorial debut with what looks like one hell of a fun time – gory, action-packed, and handsomely shot. Alongside Foxx, the cast includes Dave Franco, Meagan Good, Scott Adkins, and Snoop Dogg.

If it lives up to the inspired insanity of its premise and the kinetic action shown off in the trailer, Day Shift could very well be one of Netflix’s most satisfying genre romps this year.

DayShift releases on August 12.
